Shawn and I had a great time photographing Dustin + Kasey's wedding at the Legacy last month. As I was working on these images, Shawn came by and commented on how much Dustin and Kasey laugh together. And it's true- it's clear that they are truly friends, which makes for a great marriage.

One of the most special things about this wedding was that Kasey wore her mother's wedding dress! Such a cool detail and she looked beautiful. Congrats you guys!

I honestly think I could owe half the happiness I've experienced this year to one family- seriously! Kandace and her sister, Haley, were married within 4 months of each other, and it has been so wonderful working with them- I am sure I will miss seeing their faces and getting to celebrate their joys!

Ross + Kandace's wedding was at The Legacy in downtown Lubbock. It was full of gorgeous florals from The Fig & Flower Co., and I loved the light pinks and greens mixed with the classic neutrals and lace in Kandace's dress.

I always love the time I have to photograph the couple alone- during that short period, all of the stress and anxiety seems to melt away and I am truly able to see the relationship. I will not forget seeing the look on Ross's face when it was finally time to be photographed with his new wife- it was obvious he treasures her. There was a peace and excitement about both of them- all the planning and the waiting was over, and now it was time to celebrate and just be married!

I have so many favorites from this wedding- this is just a small portion of them! Congratulations, Ross and Kandace!

randall + lenzi • wedding • mcpherson cellars

Couples like Randall + Lenzi are why I love my job. These two can major on the majors and still do it with style and intention. Their wedding day was full of so many wonderful elements- an awesome venue that totally fits their vibe, a great playlist, old books, board games, wine (duh!), and gorgeous florals. Top that off with popcorn, bundt cakes and great friends and family, and you've got a great time.

These two wanted an intimate ceremony, so they invited their guests to wait inside while they said their vows in the courtyard at McPherson Cellars. Not only was it gorgeous outside, but so special- especially when I realized that Shawn and I were essentially the only other people there, with the exception of the judge (who is the father of one of Randall's childhood friends), and sweet Estelle, Randall's daughter. I could photograph that little girl all. day. long. She's precious.

Thank you both for trusting us with your wedding day images- we loved capturing your new beginning!

Zak + Christina • Wedding • Spirit Ranch

lissa-anglinComment

It rained on Zak and Christina's wedding day. And Christina cried. But not for the reasons you may think. I'll just let her tell you why:

"Unfortunately we had a bad weather alert about 20 minutes prior to when the OUTDOOR ceremony was to begin so everything had to be moved inside to what was part of the previous reception site. While this is probably most bride's nightmare (and I will admit it was mine too), it was pulled off smoothly and no one had any idea the ceremony was even supposed to be outside - this was made possible by my numerous and wonderful family and friends. Everyone was so willing and eager to jump in to help to make my day as perfect as possible. I even had some good friends (not in bridal party) who as soon as they heard about bad weather rushed over early to help.

I ended up crying but it wasn't because we had to move the ceremony inside it was because I was truly touched by what amazing family and friends I have. Which leads me to say that as a future bride my number one advice isn't to fret about your wedding day going perfect, it is about enjoying that special time with all the people who surround you and are there to support you on your new life journey."

Talk about having your priorities straight! It was so wonderful to watch Zak and Christina cope with the impending weather and still squeeze every ounce of celebration out of their wedding day. I will never forget seeing those amazing friends and family move everything inside lightning fast (haha- no pun intended)- it was evidence of their love for these two! I loved working with them so much- here are some of my favorite images!

11 great places to get married in the lubbock area

lissa-anglin1 Comment

One of the first things a bride and groom need to book is their wedding venue. Surprisingly, we have a ton of great venues in the Lubbock area and I thought it would be helpful to list some of my favorites. My biggest piece of advice to couples regarding venue is to select a place that already looks great. You'll spend less time decorating/covering up the ugly if you simply book a great location. All of these have space for a ceremony and reception, which is a huge plus when it comes to logistics! (There are several venues that you won't see on this list simply because I haven't gotten to shoot there yet!)

colten + sharlyn • wedding • mcpherson cellars, lubbock tx

"Pretty much the only thing that I'm not worried about is you," she said with a laugh.

That's the statement I heard from Sharlyn a few weeks before her wedding- in the thick of the last-few-things-to-get-done time, when wedding planning can seem quite overwhelming and you've got forty things that need to be checked off the list. Quite responsibly, she and her mother were meeting with vendors and checking and double-checking before the big day. Now, of course, she wasn't commenting on her marriage or her fiancé, or any of the big, life-changing stuff that happens on your wedding day...but hearing her say those words made me so thankful.

I love that she trusted me that much- even before I had taken one photo of her. It made me want to work that much harder for her and Colten.

The big day arrived, and it was unmistakably one of the prettiest November days I've ever experienced in West Texas. We began at McPherson Cellars for portraits, and then headed to Broadway Church of Christ for the ceremony. These two had a great group of people around them and it was a great celebration! Thank you, Colten, Sharlyn and your families, for trusting us. And congratulations!

david + kay • wedding • spirit ranch

lissa-anglin1 Comment

It rained all morning and most of the afternoon on David + Kay's wedding day. I can't lie and say that it didn't add an extra layer of stress, considering the beautiful outdoor ceremony Kay had envisioned- but what is most amazing about how the rain affected this day is that it only made things better. Spirit Ranch (one of my favorite venues here in Lubbock) was transformed into this moody, romantic, intimate place with the cloud cover. Thankfully, David and Kay were up for shooting outside in the sprinkles and it made for some beautiful images. The wetness did force us inside for the ceremony, but it also forced us all to remember what was most important- that these two would be married, and that their friends and family were all there to see it.

These two are true artisans, and incorporated much of their own music into their day. David wrote and performed a song to propose to Kay, which they also danced to- and each of them also wrote and recorded songs for their parents, which was played during those dances. It was very special.

Did I mention I love October weddings? If not, I do. I love the colors, the cool in the air, and the people. Brides- please get married in October. And don't be afraid to walk in the wet leaves. That's where the best pictures are. :)

brandon + lyndal • the watson building • wedding

I don't even know where to start with this blog post- the amazing decor and details, the fabulous, affectionate bride and groom, the fact that I saw so many familiar faces and had the pleasure of photographing them...it was all too much fun.

Brandon and Lyndal were married at one of my favorite venues here in Lubbock- The Watson Building. It was a gorgeous September day and from the moment we pulled up to the building, I knew that my camera would be seeing lots and lots of wonderful things. Touches of burlap, coral, and succulents were everywhere. There were special tables for the kids, and customized Jones sodas (Lyndal's new last name!). Brandon's cake table had lots of John Deere on it and their bulldog, Hagan, even played a part in the ceremony.

Most of all, though, watching these two together just reminds me that God has a perfect plan. It makes me thankful that these two met and are now married. God's so good- he knows exactly what we need, and waits for the perfect time to give it to us.

I have lots of photos to share- enjoy!
